Raised in the Bay Area, Janet Litton began photographing with her best friend from high school, Cathy Stashuk. Armed with Nikkormats, they began photographing all of their friends in the beautiful forests, beaches, and any empty field they could find.

They also built their own darkroom and started processing film and printing all of their images. Janet continued with film cameras and the darkroom process until about 2007 when she switched to digital. Knowing the darkroom process has been very beneficial to her artistry in Photoshop and other photo processes.

Janet has continued photographing many subjects, reviewing her older work and incorporating new processes into them and creating new images.

One of her favorite subjects to photograph are Dogs. She has volunteered for years at shelters, rescues helping to save, adopt and rehabilitate dogs for many families.

“Working with dogs has filled my heart with so much compassion and understanding for their plight. There’s no reason anyone should every purchase a dog from a pet store or online broker.”

Check out her “State of Dogs,” a powerful photo that feature hundreds of dogs from her years at the shelter. The print is available for purchase and a portion of the proceeds go to shelters in the Coachella Valley and the LA rescue, “Angels in Fur Dog Rescue.”

This updated site has a collection of photos from all of her years of photography. Through photo courses at Glendale College, Arizona State University, several photo workshops and years of self-taught, you will see many styles, processes and the growth of a person who loves photography.
